1959 JAGUAR XK150 SPECIAL BODY hand-built classic sports/racing roadster.

This absolutely stunning piece of automotive art has been lovingly built from scratch by renowned aluminium fabricator Max Szewczyk over a four year period & around 3,500 hours.

After visiting historic race meetings such as Goodwood Revival, Silverstone Classic & Prescott Hillclimb, Max was inspired by the rakish lines of both pre-war & post-war vintage cars, particularly the emotive silhouettes of the racing Brooklands MG, Riley, Alvis & Bugatti.

This one-of-a-kind masterpiece of artistry in aluminium has been crafted with amazing attention to detail throughout. A donor Jaguar XK150 was sourced & stripped of its heavy original steel coupe bodywork, the chassis was suitably strengthened & the drivetrain uprated.

Quite road legal, the performance of this motor car is both reliable & tractable but now far superior to the original & significantly enhanced by the lightweight hand-formed aluminium bodywork.

The venerable 3.4 litre DOHC straight six cylinder XK engine was painstakingly rebuilt & properly set up, featuring a modified cylinder head breathing through special triple twin-choke Webber carburettors & now drives through a rebuilt 5 speed gearbox with a satisfyingly smooth & precise action.

As for the exhaust, the emotive bark sounds sublime, emitting a throaty blare when blipping the throttle. The twin stainless steel pipes have been precision engineered to actually exit the car through the rear bodywork & the tips are profiled accordingly.

Jaguar’s famous disc brakes on all four corners retard the machine & uprated suspension offers a firm yet rewarding driving experience. To the benefit of enhanced handling, the engine & gearbox have been optimally positionedin the body & running on appropriately painted wire wheels with new tyres, the stance of this machine just looks ‘right’.

The intricate aluminium bodywork was fabricated on the traditional ‘English Wheel’, highlighting Max’s master craftman’s skill in hand-forming panels into compound curves. The swooping, curvaceous bodywork with the signature ‘pointed-tail’ design make for a devilishly handsome motorcar. The twin ‘quick-release’ fuel fillers evoke those found on racing cars in period. Delicate, unique & clever design details abound with numerous strategically placed precision-cut louvres to aid cooling & enhance the aesthetics. Countless hours were spent not only forming the flowing lines, but every bracket, stay, brace & support has been hand-crafted as well.

The combination of bare aluminium interior panels & rich red leather covering the custom-made hand-stitched leather bucket seats are a tactile beast for the senses. The period feel of the cockpit is further heightened by a proper riveted wood-rimmed steering wheel, twin aeroscreens, numerous switches with engraved identification & a beautiful antique chrono stopclock - indispensable for rallies.

Cosmetically, this stunning motorcar’s lustrous coachwork is finished in a fetching shade of high-gloss mid-grey complemented by contrasting black painted wire wheels; the depth & quality of the paintwork enhancing the delicately curvaceous bodywork.

This outstanding beautiful motor car has been built to be enjoyed; to be savoured, & as such, would equally be at home on a cross country blast, cruising along a sun-drenched, palm tree-lined boulevard, or the centre of attention on the manicured lawns of a prestigious concourse event.
